New Byth is a small planned grid — two streets and a square — in the Buchan hinterland between Turriff and Cuminestown, with no trunk road through the village. If you broke down here you are on farm roads, the Cuminestown link, or a steading that satnav dumps in a close. DSBM’s yard is still 2 Fordafourie Cottages, Fraserburgh. Typical ETA is a mid-radius Buchan run, shorter if the truck is already at Turriff or New Pitsligo, longer if it is south of Ellon. Give the street in the grid; they all look the same on a map. This is not New Deer and it is not New Pitsligo.

Registration, which street in the grid, whether it rolls, and a farm name if you are outside the rectangle. A photo beats “the white house”. If you never reached the village, say the road toward Turriff or toward Cuminestown.

No harbour, no industrial estate, no A-road. Farm concrete, a tight grid, and winter ice that sits in the square. We stage at the village mouth when a trailer cannot turn in the grid.
