CAR WILL NOT DRIVE?

Non-runner car transport

A car does not have to run to be moved. DSBM regularly handles non-runners, but the quote and equipment depend on whether the vehicle can roll, steer and brake and whether there is safe access for loading.

Tell us exactly what the car can do

The most useful information is whether the engine starts, whether neutral can be selected, whether all wheels turn, whether the steering works and whether the handbrake releases.

Driveway and garage collections

Non-runners can often be collected from homes, workshops and storage sites. Tight driveways, underground parking, steep slopes or blocked access should be mentioned before booking.

Locked wheels and failed brakes

A car with locked wheels or seized brakes may require recovery skates, winching or a different loading plan. Do not describe a vehicle as a normal non-runner if it cannot roll.

Automatic and electric vehicles

Tell us if the vehicle is automatic, hybrid or electric and whether the manufacturer allows it to be moved in neutral. If there is a drivetrain or high-voltage warning, do not attempt to force the vehicle to move.

Planned transport or urgent recovery

For a planned collection, use the online quote system. If the car has just broken down and needs moved urgently, call the 24/7 recovery line for availability and ETA.

Common questions

Can you move a car with no MOT or tax?

A vehicle can generally be transported off-road on suitable recovery equipment, but the collection and destination must be lawful and accessible. DSBM does not advise driving an unroadworthy vehicle.

What if the car is stuck in park?

Tell us before dispatch. A vehicle stuck in park may need a different loading method and should not be dragged without assessing the drivetrain and wheel condition.

Can you collect from an auction or salvage yard?

Yes, subject to the site release process and vehicle condition. Have the collection reference and release details ready.

Can I get a quote online?

Yes. Use the DSBM quote system and describe the vehicle accurately, especially whether it rolls, steers and brakes.
