West Aberdeenshire north–south spine

A97 WEST SPINE.
BANFF TO THE HILLS.

Not the A90. Banff, Aberchirder, Huntly, Rhynie, Lumsden. We will tell you when the hills add an hour.

The A97 is west Aberdeenshire’s north–south spine: Banff south through Aberchirder, Huntly, Rhynie and Lumsden, then on toward Dinnet and Deeside. It is a different country from the A90. The Fraserburgh truck can be at the Banff/Aberchirder end in a mid-length run via Turriff; Rhynie, Lumsden and the hills toward Strathdon are a longer, weather-led job and we will say so. Typical spots are the Huntly approaches, the exposed Rhynie–Lumsden section, and village streets in Aberchirder that the A97 only clips. Give direction (Banff-bound or Deeside-bound), the last town, and whether you are on the A97 or already down the Cabrach or Glenbuchat road.

Aberchirder, Huntly, Rhynie, Lumsden — then the hills.

North: Banff then Foggie on the B9023 grid just off this road. Huntly is the main town pinch. South: Rhynie and Lumsden, high, exposed, forestry wagons. Further on, Deeside is a long honest run from Fordafourie, not a local hop. Call 01224 044741 or GPS 07475 722702.

When you call from the A97

Direction, last town, on the A97 vs a glen or the Cabrach, registration, whether it rolls, and a ground photo in snow. Huntly town streets are a different access problem from a passing place south of Lumsden. We need that split in the first minute.

Typical breakdown spots

Aberchirder approaches; Huntly roundabouts; the exposed Rhynie–Lumsden miles in winter; forestry gateways that look like lay-bys. This page is the spine, not a Huntly clone and not a Lumsden clone.

Breakdown and accident recovery

24/7 from Fraserburgh with an honest clock that changes along the road: live-road shunts, non-runners in village clips, 4x4s off the Cabrach. Aberdeenshire-local recovery, not long-haul out of the county.

Booked collection

Town or farm off the A97: both postcodes at quotes.dsbm.uk. Hill collections may need a hardstanding on the public road.

Honest ETA from Fraserburgh

Banff/Aberchirder: mid via Turriff. Huntly: longer. Rhynie/Lumsden: weather-led, we will not quote a Broch-harbour time. Time after the pin and after we know which end of the A97 you are on.
