A breakdown rarely waits for workshop opening hours. If your garage is closed, the important step is agreeing a suitable destination and handover before collection. DSBM can discuss your recovery and the available arrangements in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
Check the garage's delivery arrangements
Look for the workshop's published contact details and ask whether it accepts vehicles outside opening hours. Some have agreed parking and key arrangements; others need a member of staff present. An open forecourt does not, by itself, mean the garage has accepted a delivery.
Give us the garage name, full address, booking reference and any instructions it has confirmed. Tell us about barriers, gates or restricted access. Delivery arrangements are separate from the garage agreeing to diagnose or repair the vehicle.
If an immediate garage delivery is not possible
Tell us before booking so we can discuss the options for your particular job. Depending on the circumstances and availability, you may need a different agreed destination, a planned collection later, or temporary storage with a further delivery arranged afterwards.
Ask about vehicle storage if it is needed; do not assume a space is reserved. Confirm where the vehicle will be kept, the storage charge, when charges start and how collection or onward delivery will be arranged. Each part should be clear before you authorise it.
Make the key handover clear
- Confirm who can authorise the collection and provide the vehicle keys.
- Give the receiving contact's details and any agreed delivery window.
- Pass on the garage's specific instructions for parking and keys.
- Tell us if the vehicle cannot be locked, has damaged windows or has another condition affecting handover.
- Let us know promptly if the destination or access arrangements change.
Do not assume that a driver can leave a vehicle or its keys at a closed premises without an agreed handover. Discuss the plan with both DSBM and the receiving garage.
Check what the price includes
A recovery now and a separate delivery when the workshop opens can involve two movements. Ask for the collection, destination, any waiting, storage and further transport to be explained in the quote. Our recovery cost guide sets out the details that affect the work.

Your questions, answered.
Can you leave the car outside the garage overnight?
Only discuss that option once the garage has agreed where the vehicle and keys can be left. Tell DSBM the confirmed instructions before arranging delivery.
Is storage included in every recovery quote?
Do not assume it is. Ask whether storage is available, what it costs and whether onward delivery is a separate charge before booking.
Can I choose a garage the following morning?
Tell us that the final destination is not decided. Any temporary destination or storage needs to be agreed first, with onward transport arranged separately if required.
